The annual Band Banquet is Tuesday, May 8th in the Biddle Auditorium at 6pm. After the awards ceremony, we’ll have a catered meal provided by Tre Raggzi’s of Gadsden while the seniors give us their last will & testaments. Any student interested in auditioning for Drum Major should sign up in the band room as well as submit an application along with at least two letters of recommendation supporting your leadership capabilities. One of these letters should be from an SHS faculty member (not a band staff member). DRUM MAJOR PRELIMS: Date: Tuesday, April 10th, 2018 Location: Bandroom Time: 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM Each candidate will conduct the same musical selection: JSU’s 1998 “Firebird”. Scores, recordings and applications may be picked up at the band office. In addition to conducting, the staff and judging panel will review all applications and letters of recommendation and interview each candidate. The top candidates will then progress to the FINAL round. DRUM MAJOR FINALS: Date: Wednesday, April 11th, 2018 Location: Bandroom Time: 3:15 – 4:30pm We are looking for a Drum Major who will lead by example and exemplify the positive attitude, work ethic, and spirit of The PRIDE. A Drum Major is a musician, teacher, administrator, communicator, leader, performer, and friend. Drum majors auditions will culminate in candidates conducting The PRIDE in the final round. Candidates may choose to conduct one the following traditional pieces: SHS Fight Song, Alma Mater or Amazing Grace, as well as one selection from the 2017 show, “Rockstar.” The PRIDE will then vote on the finalists and the outcome of the vote will play a role in the Staff’s decision of the final result. Wind Ensemble to Perform for Senior Citizens Wednesday, February 28, 2018 ![]()
To all Wind Ensemble Members & Parents, The Southside Community Center has asked for the Wind Ensemble to perform for our local senior citizens group. This is a wonderful chance for our students to become more engaged in our community and have the opportunity to talk to and learn from our elders. This is going to be a very special concert. The senior citizens are so looking forward to this event! This performance will happen during the school day on Wednesday, February 28th. Students will be required to check into 1st period and stay on their normal schedule until they are called to the band room. Students will not miss much of class, and they will not be considered absent as long as they have checked into school. Info For Parents Equipment Loading/Parking Our truck will unload equipment at Dock 5 off 11th Ave. N. Students will be dropped off in the circular drive between the Sheraton and BJCC (Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd.) Parking is available in the 22nd Street deck adjacent to the Sheraton Birmingham Hotel (P5 on this map). Parking is 1/2 price for those staying at the Sheraton ($6.00). The regular price is $12. This deck has 2500 spaces. Buses and large trucks are directed to parking lot 12. Don’t forget that the annual Gadsden Christmas Parade is this Saturday, Dec. 2nd starting at 10:30 am on Broad Street. We have only one rehearsal to prepare for this parade on Thursday, Nov. 30th from 3 to 4:30 pm. Several students have an excused absence from this parade (such as the Theatre Department’s competition), all absences must be cleared in advanced with the directors. Don’t forget to bring your Santa Hat! SCHEDULE Thursday, 11/30/17 Full Marching Band Parade Rehearsal 3 to 4:30 pm Saturday, 12/2/17 8:30 am: Fully dressed & seated in HS Band Room. 8:45 am: Load Buses & Depart to 1st Avenue for drop off @ staging area. 10:30 PM: Parade starts!
