Southside Wind Ensemble AMEA Information & Schedule
To All Wind Ensemble Members & Parents, The time is finally here. Our AMEA performance is exactly two weeks away! Again, we cannot emphasize enough the importance of this performance. Being selected to perform at the state convention is a tremendous honor that not many groups will ever receive. We owe it to ourselves and to the bands that were not selected to give our best performance possible. We are very proud of the hard work and dedication that you have already put into this concert. Keep it up! Below is a list of important information and a tentative schedule for AMEA. Please read everything and review it carefully and contact us if you have any questions. Welcome back PRIDE! We hope that everyone had a wonderful break spending time with family and friends. The second semester is here and it’s always a busy time for The PRIDE. There are lots of events happening; state assessment, concerts, honor bands, auditions and clinics…the list goes on and on, so please check the online calendar frequently. Dates and information are being published as soon as they are available. Please read the following information and reminders carefully. SAVE THE DATES “The PRIDE” of Southside Tentative Schedule 2018 Hello PRIDE Family! Greetings from “The PRIDE” of Southside! First, we would like to congratulate everyone on an outstanding first semester. As always, our communities of Southside & Rainbow City have a lot to be proud of! Our students’ dedication to musical and personal excellence continues to drive our band programs to new heights. As hard as it may be to believe, it is already time again to begin planning for next year. For 59 years, the award-winning Southside Band, “The PRIDE” of Southside has thrilled fans with their entertaining performances, musical ability and the quality of it’s students. Comprised of some of the best kids ANYWHERE, The PRIDE performs for thousands of people each year at Football games, competitions, concerts, recitals, performances, parades and many other events nation-wide. All upcoming RMS Band 8th graders are automatic a part of the Southside Band. 2017 marked the 30th consecutive year of superior ratings for the Southside Band at both marching contests and Alabama State Music Performance Assessment. This year, we were also honored to have the Wind Ensemble selected to perform at the 2018 Alabama Music Educators Association In-service Conference in the BJCC Concert Hall. A tremendous honor indeed! It’s that time to start thinking about next year’s membership and 8th grade move up. Below are some dates to go ahead and put on your calendar and reserve now. Because of the nature of our activity, and the number of members that we have to coordinate “The PRIDE” has a very strict attendance policy. All members must be at all rehearsals and performances. Members and potential members are expected and required to work their schedules accordingly. Please review our tentative schedule for the 2018-2019 school year. SAVE THESE DATES ROOKIE CAMP: May 21 - 24 MINI CAMP: July 23 - 27 BAND CAMP: July 30 – Aug. 3 POST-CAMP REHEARSALS: Aug. 6, 7, & 9 REGULAR AFTER SCHOOL REHEARSAL SCHEDULE Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday: 3:15-5:30pm (*Wednesday rehearsals are only added in case of Thursday performance or during the week of a marching contest.) 2017 GADSDEN CHRISTMAS PARADE INFO & SCHEDULE
Don’t forget that the annual Gadsden Christmas Parade is this Saturday, Dec. 2nd starting at 10:30 am on Broad Street. We have only one rehearsal to prepare for this parade on Thursday, Nov. 30th from 3 to 4:30 pm. Several students have an excused absence from this parade (such as the Theatre Department’s competition), all absences must be cleared in advanced with the directors. Don’t forget to bring your Santa Hat! SCHEDULE Thursday, 11/30/17 Full Marching Band Parade Rehearsal 3 to 4:30 pm Saturday, 12/2/17 8:30 am: Fully dressed & seated in HS Band Room. 8:45 am: Load Buses & Depart to 1st Avenue for drop off @ staging area. 10:30 PM: Parade starts! We’re number 48…this is towards the end of the parade. *Once we have completed the parade route, the band will walk to the Conventional Hall parking lot to load equipment & buses. 2nd Annual Gadsden, AL TUBACHRISTMAS Friday, December 1st, 2017 – 4pm ***We’re playing for the Gadsden Tree Lighting Ceremony*** You’re invited to the 2nd annual Gadsden TUBACHRISTMAS! Following in the tradition of Yuletide brass bands, TUBACHRISTMAS is an event hosted by the Harvey Philips Foundation and held all around the country in order to promote music, the instruments of the tuba family and spread the Christmas spirit. Participants of all ages and ability are welcome! Bring a horn and come celebrate TUBACHRISTMAS with us this year!
